THE FOUNDER

About In The Game

In The Game Creations LLC is a one-man company. It exists because I keep running into problems I cannot buy my way out of, and building the way out turns out to be the shorter road.

Where the Name Comes From

In August of 2010 a plaque hung above the staircase at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, and I walked under it twice a day going to and from a classroom. The stairs led up to the Aircraft and Munitions Maintenance Officer Course. For a little over three months I spent my days there with thirteen other young officers, preparing for a life of mostly self-inflicted pain.

The plaque was Roosevelt, on the man in the arena. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in it, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who errs and comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming.

I read it like a text to be analyzed, which was not what it was for. I needed to understand it in my gut and not in preparation for an exam, because soon I would be out of that classroom and responsible for actual people.

Roosevelt was fifty one and out of work when he gave that speech. He had a reputation as the most manly president in American history and he struggled with fear anyway. That is the part that stayed with me. My own fear of what people think has reliably gone to battle with my faith, and it will keep a man on the sideline every time if he lets it.

What I Have Actually Done

Retired U.S. Air Force Major. Sixteen years across military aviation maintenance, defense acquisition, digital transformation, and contractor program management. Most of that was watching organizations adopt technology, some of them well and most of them badly, and learning to tell which was happening before the bill arrived.

Then, in 2014, my wife and I took in three children from three separate homes and put them back together under one roof. We were fostering, and we spent months asking God to prepare their forever family, and it took longer than it should have to work out that the answer was us. We adopted them.

I was not good at it. I won the battle of wills every time and knew I was losing the battle for their hearts. I substituted human anger for godly discipline at every turn. Eleven years on I did not become and am still not the father I want to be, and I am the father these children need.

That is the single most useful thing I know, and it is why nothing on this site promises you a result. There is a real difference between a technique and a life. A technique tells you that if you run the steps you get the outcome. A life is what happens when you run the steps faithfully for years and the outcome is not yours to award.

How That Turns Into a Company

Every product here started as a problem I had. I build the way out because I need it to exist, and then I hand it to whoever else is stuck on the same thing, because handing it over costs almost nothing once the thing exists.

What the finished thing looks like depends on the problem. Some become software, and those live under Labs. Some are too long to be an app and become a book, under Press. Some are only worth having out loud, which is Productions. And some will not generalize at all, because the answer depends on how one specific person works — those get done alongside you, and that is Studio.

Four pathways, one reason. Not four businesses.

Everything on this site is listed with where it honestly stands. Nothing is on the App Store yet. Both books are unfinished. The podcast has two episodes. No client work has been delivered under Studio. I would rather show you a short honest shelf than a long one that is mostly hope.
